The Junction has been around since the 1940s

In the 1950s the store had a grist mill for grinding corn in to meal. The grist mill faced Hwy 60 and there was a raised metal frame for changing oil in cars between the store and grist mill. Merchandise sold by the store included gas, kerosene, groceries, meat from a refrigerated meat counter, and fatback and Streak o’ Lean were stored in salt under the counter. Cold drinks, candies, cups of ice cream and popsicles were also sold. The Whatley family originally owned the Junction property until 1947.

Colvin and Long families purchased in 1947 and sold to Fletcher Powers in 1950. The store was operated by F.W. Powers until his retirement in the 1960s. Upon his retirement the store was rented to W.M. Mayfield. Mr. Mayfield operated the store for many years. Others who rented and operated the store were Glen Stone, Curtis and Phyllis Moore, and Johnny and Cathy Windham. The Windham’s purchased the property from Addie Powers Kipp in 2005. Unfortunately Mr. Windham was killed shortly after purchasing the property.

The store was vacant until November 2010 when David Epperson purchased and reopened. In 2019 Cindy Epperson Mathews and Randy Mathews purchased the store. The old store property was purchased by the State of Alabama for a new highway project. The Mathews decided to rebuild on adjacent property. Here we are in a new building carrying on the traditions of this community of wonderful people. Come join us for some good food, cold drinks, fishing bait and tackle, delicious hoop cheese, souse meat, and bologna.
